Toiletries:
Tooth brush, towel, personal hygiene items, ...
Clothing:
Only casual clothes are needed. Vancouver's daytime temperature will be
around 25C; T-shirts, shorts, jeans will be adequate. However at night, the
temperature could drop to around 15C; so bring a light jacket for evening
outings. You will also need comfortable walking shoes for all activities, and
swim suit for swimming indoor or outdoor.
Hat and Sunscreen:
This is Vancouver's sunny and hot time of the year. Sunburn and dry skin are
potential problems. Bring a sunscreen lotion rated #15 or higher and be prepare
to wear a hat for all outdoor activities. Hand lotion and chap stick will be
very useful.
Alarm Clock:
You will need to be on time for all the excitements! So bring your alarm
clock with you.
Stationary:
Although the school you are attending will supply you with notes and text, it
would be nice for you to organize your own material. Bring a file folder, paper,
pencil and eraser. A small diary book will help to record and retain good
memories.
Camera and Film:
We will be taking group pictures to post on the internet. A simple
automatic camera is fine for your own candid souvenir shots.
Home Sickness Soothers:
Although programs will be packed full, it does not prevent some students to get
homesick. Bring photographs of family members and pets, or a small stuff
toy for hugging at night. Each student will be given a paid postcard to write
and send back home at the end of the first week. Most homestay families have
internet for sending and receiving emails, or fax to receive words from dads or
moms. It is also a good idea to time mails so the student will receive a
postcard from home within one week of his/her arrival.
Cash and Valuables:
All expenses will have been prepaid by parents. Students may
bring extra cash for souvenirs, snack food, and long-distance call home. We
cannot guarantee security for cash or valuable items. Participants must be
responsible for their possessions. We will happily safeguard any valuable items,
especially airline tickets and passports.
DO NOT Bring:
Do not bring any portable music players: radios, CDs, walkmans,
cassettes, etc. These items are generally a huge distraction and often impede
communication. They will be confiscated.
NOT ALLOWED:
Fireworks, illegal drugs, weapons of any kind are prohibited and will
lead to expulsion from Summer program. Smoking is not permitted at any time.
